David Litschel (Art’74) photographed this traditionally dressed Maasai youth watching a herd of cattle in Sinya Private Wildlife Conservancy outside of Arusha in northern Tanzania.

The area borders Kenya and is rich in wildlife, hosting a diverse bird population and one of Africa’s healthiest elephant populations. Because there are no roads, visitors travel in four-wheel drive vehicles with Maasai guides who know the lay of the land.

Casey A. Cass captures the beauty of a fall morning in Chautauqua Park south of campus.

Greg Summers (Econ’70) captured this scene at Sawhill Ponds, five miles east of Boulder, as the sun rose on May 17, 2001. He was standing at the eastern edge of the second pond and was amazed at the bright orange color on the foothills. Fortunately, the air was still, allowing him to get an almost perfect reflection of the Flatirons.

Kevin Moloney (Jour’87) captured this scene in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park on the border of Utah and Arizona while on assignment for The New York Times. He says Monument Valley has an iconic view rarely captured at night. He did most of his photography under the cover of darkness. The foreground lights are cast by a passing car driving up from the valley floor. The park, operated by the tribe, was a popular set for Western films of the 1930s through the ’60s.

Alan DeGrand (EnvDes’10) captured this rare view of a snow-covered Florence, Italy, while studying abroad there in 2009. He took the photograph after hiking to the Piazzale Michelangelo for its view of the historic center. Usually crowded exclusively with tourists, the square also was filled with Florentines admiring an uncommon view of their city.
