Comfort Me

comfortme3txtComfort Me, by Louis Flint Ceci (MCompSci’88)

Ceci’s debut novel is an intricate and touching story about a small town in Oklahoma in the 1960s. Fifteen years after his mother left the town in disgrace, the main character, Mally, must return to take care of his sick grandfather. He knows very little about his past and why his mother left the town so long ago. While he’s there, he experiences feelings of loneliness and isolation until he forms an unlikely friendship with a football player named Randy and an intellectual girl named Joanie. The three form a very close friendship that takes the place of their fractured families. However, they must eventually face the truth about themselves, their friendship and their values.
