Inner Peace

Thirty years after he went on a photographic journey to the Cambodia of “The Killing Fields,” Jay Mather (Geog’69) returned to the country in 2009 to see what had changed. Capturing the serenity that Buddhist monks seek to achieve, this photo features Chan Kong, 75, the head Buddhist monk at the Wat Phnom Yat temple in Pailin in western Cambodia. Mather calls Cambodia a forgotten country because he feels it is so neglected by the international community. See pages 42-47 for more of his photos from 1979 and 2009.
