Norlin’s watch

In 1912 students presented George Norlin, professor and Greek department chair, with a pocket watch for significant contributions to the CU sports program. As Athletic Board chair, he instilled the athletic philosophy of “a spirit of mutual trust, friendly rivalry and true sportsmanship” into the region’s intercollegiate athletics programs. Norlin became CU’s president in 1919 and oversaw the campus architectural master plan, led the university through the Depression and was a proponent of academic freedom and excellence.
